To Future Strikers (A Message from 2022 Strikers)
At the time this documents was created, the 2022-2025 contract was ratified 3.5 hours ago.1 Those of us who organized for a “No” vote are solemnly processing this result, and taking necessary steps to organize again in 2025. 2022 UC Grads Strike Timeline
Week 1-2: UAW drops COLA for 7.5/7/7/7, adds big steps, leading to membership dissent
“NO COLA, NO CONTRACT!”
Week 3: UAW Eboard directs BT majority to move 54K to 42K, in hope of getting the UC to move. This further creates discontent within RnF
2500+ Grads Opposed!
Week 4: After rounds of clarification and UC’s non-movement, the UAW starts to consider voluntary mediation with enhanced Eboard presence in bargaining
Petition For Open Mediation!
Week 5: With no ground rules set, the BT majority started substantive contract discussion with mediator Steinberg, who broke his promise to set ground rules first and threatened to withdraw if no TA was reached soon.
VOTE NO!!
Week 6: UAW 2865 Eboard scheduled ratification BEFORE UC sent the official version of their proposal, and subsequently used their informational infrastructure to push a massive YES campaign filled with misinformation, fearmongering, defamation, and tokenistic narratives. A slim majority subsequently passed the ratification and set the contract in place.
